In my music, the guitar, my approach to harmony, the feeling it creates beyond the sound as a whole and my lyrics stand out. I am sincere in all my lyrics. On the one hand, the influence of the places where I was born and grew up may cause my music to be perceived as too Turkish for Americans and too American for Turks. On the other hand, I think that these two different cultures that make me who I am are among the elements that make my music unique. Another important aspect of my music is that I am self-sufficient in making this music. I write every note of this music, I play all the instruments, I do the mixing and production myself.
The other musicians I met in Istanbul have influenced my musical development the most. I learnt from the musicians I met what to do and what not to do. For example, I learnt from Behiç that you don’t need to put a guitar solo in every song. I learnt how to form and manage a band while preparing for the Fizy High School Music Competition at Kağıthane Anatolian High School. Compromising other fields and focusing completely on this singular field, music, in high school pushed me forward. I started playing guitar at an early age, and I met piano and drums in high school. The internet played a huge role in shaping my musical education and understanding. Perhaps I owe the fact that I am a student at Yıldız Technical University Sound Arts Design Programme Music Technology Branch mostly to what I learned from the internet. At the university, I met other very valuable musicians and had the opportunity to produce music together. Üniversitede çok değerli başka müzisyenlerle tanıştım ve birlikte müzik üretme fırsatı buldum. With Ensar Bayraktar and Alp İşbilen we formed heryol.
I have a few musical parents. Studying all the works of giants like John Frusciante, Chris Cornell, Eddie Vedder and Kendrick Lamar with a crazy obsession has deeply cultivated my understanding of music and therefore my production. In my artistic production from now on, I want to focus on originality and aim for the works I produce to be different from each other. I aim for each album to have its own concept, sound and approach. What I really want to do in the stage dimension is to produce a work close to a musical. My vision about recording is still forming.
